There is a certain amount of racism in the workplace here.
Sometimes, I don't feel it at all, other times, it reeks of
it.
One elderly Aussie male nurse colleague infamously banged on the
table and shouted, "I am right! I know what I'm talking
about!" when we were just having a casual snack-time chat about
influenza.
He insisted that if one has cold and coughs, it is NOT the flu
because he claims the WHO declared so.

I said, "Strange... I live in a country where we get at least 13
strains of flu a year, and whenever we get the flu, we do get
headaches, general fatigue and malaise, fever and muscle aches, but
we also typically get coughs and the sniffles too."
And he just slammed the table and had this attitude of "How dare
YOU (a non-Caucasian and a non-Aussie) correct me!!"

Later on, an ex-Singaporean now-Aussie tells me that even though
she has lived here for almost three decades, now and then, she
still encounters folks like that where, just because you are
non-Aussie or non-Caucasian, you are NOT ALLOWED to be right.
We're so glad the majority of the populace aren't like that.
